THEODORE ROOSEVELT
By Emily A.

Theodore Roosevelt was our 26 president. He was president from 1901-1908. He was president for 7 years. Theodore was the most popular president in U.S. History!!!! How cool is that? He was also called Teddy.

Teddy had an interesting childhood. He was to sick and weak to go to school, so his family bought him a gym to get healthy and strong. In his childhood (and when he was older) his family gave money to poor families. He was taught at home. A little later in his life he went to Harvard Collage, and married Alice H. Lee, she died two days after giving birth to firstborn, Alice Roosevelt. His mother died that very same day. L Then he married Edith Kermit Carrow. He had many jobs evolving the government.

Teddy became vice president under McKinley. He became president when McKinley was assassinated. He did some cool things when he was president. Teddy got the Nobel Peace Prize for his role as mediator in the Russo-Japanese war. He also preserved more national forests and created more national parks than any other president. Roosevelt was on a hunting trip when he refused to shoot a baby bear, the teddy bear was made that very same day!!!

Before Teddy became president he had many jobs. He was… a member of the New York State Assembly, member of the Civil Service Commission, Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Governor of New York, Vice President under McKinley, and Mayor of Buffalo. That’s a lot of jobs! As you know Teddy was a great president. After he was president he ran again but lost to William Howard Taft. He stayed active and in shape. He died in his sleep on January 6, 1919.

Teddy had lots of interesting things about him. When his firstborn, Alice Roosevelt was a teenager she smoked cigars. He said “You are not smoking under my roof.” So Alice went on the roof to smoke just to spite him. He did some interesting things!!!
